PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT USE All equipment is to be used safely and in the designed manner. No child may be unsupervised on the playground at any time during the school day.
Hanging Bars - Designed to develop upper body strength.
- Only hang from the bars grasping with your hands.
- No “death drops” or gymnast dismounts.
- No standing on top of the bars.
- If the bars are crowded, those waiting in line may count slowly to fifty.
- Stand away from the bars when waiting for a turn.
Volleyball - Designed to teach volleyball skills, coordination, and teamwork.
- Never pull on the net. The net is not to be touched at all.
- Do not kick balls over the net.
Swings
- Sit properly in the swing and swing forward and backward only. No side-to-side or twisting motions are allowed.
- Be courteous and take turns; if you are waiting, count to twenty and switch turns.
- No jumping from moving swings or standing or walking in the way of swings.
- No pushing a student to start swinging.
- All students swing towards the building.
- Counting on the swinger begins when the person sits down on the swing. Twenty counts are given for all students. One complete swing backward and forward counts as one swing.
Slide
- Go down the slide facing forward and seated.
- No swinging on the slide to start or climbing up the slide is allowed.
- Climb up the stairs only.
- No swinging on slide to start.
- No standing on the slide.
- No loitering on the platform.
- No jumping off or swinging on the bar above the slide.
Monkey Bars
- Always travel on the bars in one direction.
- Use your hands to motor yourself from bar to bar.
- No hanging from the knees or jumping off.
- No sitting on top of the bars.
- Never use your legs to grab or kick another student.
- If bars are crowded, those waiting in line may count slowly to 50.
Tetherball
- Ball must be kept moving at all times, except when serving.
- No touching the rope.
- Last person in line is the judge.
- No hanging or sitting on the ball.
- Line up outside the painted circle.
- No stepping over the line.
- The winner serves the next game.
- After winning three games, the student is out.
Basketball - Designed to develop skill, coordination, strength and teamwork
- Do not climb on the backstop or hoop.
- Do not lock the game; allow others to be included.
- Teams should be fair.
- Select one or two students to act as referees and settle disagreements.
Soccer
- Do not move the goal posts.
- Use one ball for each game.
- No hanging on the goal posts.
- General soccer rules are in effect. Intentional physical contact is not allowed.
General Playground Rules
- Walk on the blacktop area and to/from recess area.
- Freeze at the first whistle. If you are playing on equipment you must stop, get off and walk to the edge of the blacktop. Line up promptly and quietly.
- Play running games on the grass area, not underneath equipment. No chasing other students.
- Respect others. Wait your turn.
- Show good sportsmanship. Follow game rules. Include everyone in games.
- Respect school property.
- Play in assigned areas only.
Cafeteria Rules
- Walk at all times.
- Throwing of food is not allowed. Keep tables and eating area clean.
- Sharing and trading of food is not allowed.
- The noise level must be kept at a minimum. When waiting in line and eating at tables, use quiet voices.
- Keep hands and feet to self. Respect others.
- Bag popping in the solarium is not allowed. Pounding on the tables is not allowed.
- Respect proctors. Wait to be excused by the proctor.
